International Film Festival on Disability

 Cannes | September 15th - 20st 2017

 Deep down, we’re all disabled

In regards to what we could be, in regards to what we’d dream to be and to do,
there’s always something missing, to us all, be it even just a little bit more life,
 ardour, skillfulness or generosity.

That’s why, in regards to those we call “disabled” – and who really are so to us –
I feel like an old brother, I don’t see a difference. That’s why, in my old age
(which is also an irredeemable disability), I’m particularly happy to be a patron
to this festival. And to be alongside my peers.

JEAN-CLAUDE CARRIERE, honorary patron of the IFFD

Fest

Its goal is to unite men and women in participating in and promoting a creative, talented, emotional and civic difference. Our project, just as the Director's Fortnight and the International Critics' Week, is independent.

The mission of the festival is truly ambitious and very important! The social significance of it lies in the fact that due to the change in general attitudes towards disability in a positive way, we will greatly facilitate lives of these people.

Cinema is evolving…
Untouchables, The Finishers, La Famille Bélier and Sur le chemin de l'école are testimonies of this change. Enabling artists to meet and adapt their films to different audiences is now more relevant than ever. The topic of disability turns out to be unavoidable: particularly during castings, but also when it comes to accommodations for disabled people. Audiodescripting films, welcoming hearing impaired people, achieving universal accessibility to movie theatres, putting together aid plans for films and the participation of disabled people in the Commission Supérieure Technique (Higher technical commission) are all matters that are now taken into account by the CNC.
